Welcome Week is an event put on by Orientation & First-Year Programs at the University of Minnesota. It is attended by over 5,500 incoming freshman, and over 400 Welcome Week Leaders. I created the identity and designed all supporting materials for this event.

The system uses color to differentiate the four elements an incoming student will learn to navigate during Welcome Week - "You, Your College, Your Campus, and Your Twin Cities". The symbol represents the elements coming together to form the college experience. The identity is easily recognizable (important to nervous/anxious new students), and gets first-year students excited about starting their collegiate experience!

In addition to the Welcome Week identity I designed the Class of 2017 T-shirts that were given to all first-year students. In previous years I had noticed a trend of students not wanting to wear the shirts due to the heavy class and department branding on both the front and back of the shirt so I pushed for a super simple design that I felt would get more use throughout the year. The feedback we received was extremely positive and I continued to see the shirts worn all around campus throughout my time at the U of M.

I also redesigned the planner given out to all first-year students and sold in the university's bookstores. Using my own previous experience with the planner, as well as input gathered from other students, I pinpointed the areas that could be improved upon. I reworked the page layout to have significantly more writing space and designed a cover without photos (something that had not been done before with this planner) to appeal to a wider audience. The resulting planner sold more than any other Gopher Guide in previous years!
